BOOK BLITZ: You're It (A Tag Novella) by Shari J. Ryan

Our little family has been together for four years, and life has been good, considering my track record. But In the blink of an eye, my ease was suddenly gone when I heard his terrifying words. I knew from the look on Tango’s face and the way he avoided my gaze—all hell was about to break loose. Now it seems like the dangers I spent years desperately avoiding are starting to threaten my happily ever after.

Maybe it’s because I let my guard down. Or maybe it’s because I was starting to trust again. But I can’t even trust the people closest to me, and now I remember why.

Screw with me, that’s one thing. Screw with my family, and we’ve got a problem…

EXCERPT

Take care of my brothers then, ok?”
What’s that supposed t’ mean?” he cut his glare back over to her.
It means, if you decide to get rid of me, or send me away, or whatever. I mean, you guys are obviously happy to have them here, the way you all fawn over them. Maybe because you’re short on boys, I don’t know,” she kept her eyes on him, watching for his reaction to her hypothesis.
I guess you noticed our ratio is a little off,” he chuckled.
Yes,” she sighed loudly, “I noticed. That’s why I figure you’ll send me away. You don’t really have room for another girl. So when you do, please just take care of them. Ok?”

BOOK BLITZ: No Strings Attached by Candy Caine

Two passionate stories of women finding love when they least expect it...

Never is Not Forever

Claudia Brown has the perfect life, full of all the trappings of success. She has put herself through school and has worked hard to become the youngest English department chairperson at a prestigious ivy-league university. One trap she swears to avoid is marriage—a sure-fire way to constrain her career. Besides, she likes playing the field. But when Claudia realizes her biological clock is a ticking time bomb, she decides to have a baby—minus the attachment of the father. After a meticulous search she finds the perfect specimen: Robert Sterling, a smart, sexy, fellow professor. But she doesn’t factor in the one thing that can derail her entire campaign—falling in love with the sperm donor!

Forever Yours

When Jade Green meets successful trial lawyer, Charles Trotter, she finds herself relaxing in the warmth of his smiles and his off-beat humor. Best of all, even though he is a blue-eyed hunk, she thinks of him only as a great guy to hang with—no drama, no intimacy, no possibility of shattered dreams. And wonder of wonders, he seems to feel exactly the same way! When Charles Totter meets Jade Green, he thinks she is a walking wet dream. As he gets to know her better, he finds he also enjoys her company and her quirky sense of humor. Now if he can only find a way to get her into his bed!

Never is Not Forever

Robert took another sip of his drink. In the background the music throbbed sensually. “I’ve been alone most of my life. My parents died when I was an infant and an aunt raised me until she died when I was fourteen. Then I was placed in a foster home until I was eighteen. I’ve always been afraid to get close to anyone for fear they’d leave me—or so says a psychologist friend of mine.” He grimaced wryly.

Claudia thought he was sounding more and more like the perfect candidate to be the father of her baby. “I never had much of a family life, either,” she admitted.  At least that was the truth.

As they continued to talk, Claudia found herself becoming more interested in him as a person, nearly forgetting why she had lured him there in the first place. Then the moment happened. He put down his glass and removed his glasses revealing the most beautiful teal-colored eyes she’d ever seen on a man. Before that thought had been completely translated by her brain, his lips were covering hers.

It was a gentle kiss, slow and thoughtful. In the background she could hear the sensual guitar music of Ottmar Liebert and marveled how much it fit the mood. Claudia liked how Robert’s mouth felt on hers and actually wanted more. Surprised at her reaction to the kiss, she realized she might not need a script, after all…

Forever Yours

Despite the fact Jade knew she should end things with
Charles, it felt comfortable having breakfast with him. Worse, she could see
making a habit of it. After they finished he insisted on helping her clean up.
Standing next to him at the sink washing the dishes as he dried, she felt the
heat rising from his body. The scent of his after-shave was intoxicating and
going straight to her head. She wanted him to kiss her, but knew he wouldn't.
Not after the last time. So she did the unthinkable and kissed him.
“This is for breakfast and two more inches to my waistline,”
she said. “Thanks a lot."
He smacked his forehead and said, “I did it again, didn't I?
I'm going to become a Pavlovian response. You’re going to equate me with food.”
“It's a distinct possibility,” Jade replied as she playfully
punched his arm.
Charles gently took her face and held it between his large
hands. She looked into his eyes as they sought hers. She had to be blind not to
see the hope and longing there. “Are you going to run away this time?” he
asked, his deep voice resonating with emotion.

BOOK SYNOPSIS

Carly Ruth Laden moved away from the small town she was born and raised in, and headed for the city of Carmingden. At the tender age of 22 years, Carly met her husband, Dorian Shiffer, a man every woman wanted for their very own. Dorian carried a secret which Carly unearthed and that secret shocked not only Carly, but her family as well. Strange events began to surround the Laden family. Unanswered questions along with the disappearance of Carly Ruth Laden Shiffer set in motion a series of events that would forever haunt the townsfolk of Burl and Helmsdale. Versions of the truth were what gathered together the townspeople of both these small towns. Everyone had their own opinions as to what happened to Carly and her brother, Decker Laden, and to Dorian Shiffer. Carly felt her seemingly perfect marriage was crumbling because her husband was having an affair. When she discovers Dorian was in fact having an affair, the truth of her husband’s apparent change is a shock Carly was not prepared for. Things turned from bad to worse when Carly decides to confront Dorian. Carly disappears. Her parents, Barbara and Drew, and her brother, are left to endure the agonizing and horrifying events about to take place. Events that no one ever thought possible. Carly’s past nightmares come back to haunt her, to take revenge. The Laden family becomes swept inside a tornado of changing degrees, where their lives are turned inside out, and where hope becomes a lost treasure buried somewhere unknown, somewhere deep and dark. No one is aware of the evil lurking in the woods along Laden Lane. Carly informs the sheriff of Burl of a mysterious truck parked just near Laden Lane. No one pays much mind to Carly’s suspicions. Everyone believes Carly has a crazy head. Since childhood, Carly has had an over-active imagination. Carly Ruth Laden Shiffer had become the boy who cried wolf.

Review: The Lost Girl by RL Stine

The Lost Girl

The Lost Girl by R.L. Stine

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Publication Date: September 29, 2015

Blurb:

Generations of children and teens have grown up on R.L. Stine's best-selling and hugely popular horror series, Fear Street and Goosebumps. Now, the Fear Street series is back with a chilling new installment, packed with pure nightmare fodder that will scare Stine's avid fan base of teen readers and adults. New student Lizzy Palmer is the talk of Shadyside High. Michael and his girlfriend Pepper befriend her, but the closer they get to her, the stranger she seems and the more attractive she is to Michael. He invites her to join him on a snowmobile race that ends in a tragic accident. Soon, Michael's friends start being murdered, and Pepper becomes convinced that Lizzy is behind the killings. But to her total shock, she and Michael are drawn into a tragic story of an unthinkable betrayal committed over 60 years ago. Frightening and tense in the way that only this master of horror can deliver, The Lost Girl is another terrifying Fear Street novel by the king of juvenile horror.

The Lost girl starts off in the year 1950 with a simple…yet not so simple girl named Beth Palmieri. Her father opening a brand new stable in Shadyside after working his entire life to become his own boss. When a horrible turn of events takes place, the page turns and all of a sudden you’re reading present day. There are a few back and forth into time in this novel, but most of this book takes place modern day. Michael meets Lizzy and she seems strange, but he can’t stop seeming to be around her all the time as she’s always seeming lost whenever he sees her. There are some amazing and terrible twists and turns that make this novel go from curiosity, to full-on suspense rather quickly.
This book takes some pretty hefty turns and literally at times, throws the reader for a loop. This is definitely a book that has a slight cliff hanger ending even though you may think it is over, there is still a trickle at the very end.

**SPOILER**  I did not care for one part in this book, and to me it may be personal, but I feel it needs to be mentioned. The act of drinking(even just a couple) beers and then not only driving cars, but joyriding on snowmobiles and having a tragic happening during this escapade is not something I feel should be in any novel, especially not a novel for teens and young adults. I do understand the reason for the actions, and even the method behind the lessons learned, but I do not suggest reading this book if you have a strong emotional past with or involving driving under the influence.

I received this book as a digital Advanced Readers Copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed within are strictly my own.

I give this book 4 out of 5 shields.

Dollar Shave Club Executive Review

So, I'm sure by now you have all seen the commercials where people are being tazed and whacked with bats and chased away from the razor cases while attempting to purchase razor blades for themselves. Well, I decided that with prices of the good dependable razors being $9-12 for the handle and starter blades plus $10-30 for the blade refills depending on brand and feature, that maybe this Dollar Shave Club was worth a shot. There are three levels you can go with when you subscribe.

Options:

THE HUMBLE TWIN
$1 Each shipment
+$2.00 S&H

  • 2 stainless steel blades
  • 5 cartridges per month

THE 4X
$6 Each shipment
SHIPS FREE

  • 4 stainless steel blades
  • 4 cartridges per month
  • Full 90-degree pivot head hugs the turns, surges you onward
  • Wide-open back for a fast, easy rinse
  • Lubricating strip soothes the skin

THE EXECUTIVE
$9 Each shipment
SHIPS FREE

  • 6 stainless steel blades
  • 4 cartridges per month
  • Trimmer edge built in
  • Full 90-degree pivot head
  • Wide-open back for a fast, easy rinse
  • Aloe, Vitamin E, and lavender lubricating strip calms sensitive skin

The option we went with was THE EXECUTIVE due to it being the best quality we could get, we decided to start big and if need be, we can downgrade as we go. When you order, you are brought through an allure of options for shaving creams and aftershaves, but we decided to keep it at just the razor to start with since that's the whole reason for going to the site...

I was able to order without much hassle, no sign-up fees, no hidden costs. Just like it says on the television, it's simple and fast.
I realized that for your first order(and all orders technically) you're paying the same price every time. BUT, there is specified that you are only going you get one handle, in the first box. This handle is free when you order your first box, but you do have the option of spending $4 on a spare, we just decided not to.

When you're initially signing up, it automatically sets your frequency at every month, as this is a subscription service. But it was easy to go into my account settings and see that there is the option of having them sent monthly or bimonthly, depending on your need.

CHECKOUT: I was able to make my selection rather easily without being overly up-sold products as add-ons and have my order paid for and placed fast. I was able to choose the most convenient way to pay for my subscription, between paypal, and credit/debit card.

Having placed my order on August 21st, I expected that it was going to take a couple of weeks to actually receive my first box, but much to my surprise, I was pleased to find it in my mailbox on the 28th! It only took 7 days to arrive at my door, which is a far cry for some places, seeing as Amazon's 2-day shipping, doesn't ALWAYS mean 2 days. Upon opening the box, I notice that everything is tucked in nice and neat with a welcome letter "member handbook" from the company. This letter outlines that you can change up the box contents if you want to add on items, or frequency, and how often they ship, which is handy.

Opening the box

The handle came free with the first box of blades. It's a pretty good weight and nicely crafted. I like it a lot better than the Gillette ones so far.

The entire contents of the box including a free sample of Shave Butter available through their website.

After putting a head on the handle, I see that it fits securely and snug and has a trimming blade along the top to help with those pesky edges.

Closeup of The Executive razor head

My husband used the razor this morning for his face before work and says that the razor shaves very smooth and didn't catch or pull any of his facial hair, which has been an ongoing issue with some previous razors we have tried with him. He likes the moisturizing strip and he also got a chance to try out the trimmer edge on the top. He likes this razor and said that he can't beat the price either. We will continue using this subscription service for a while. Our rating for this value and quality, along with shipping speed is 5 out of 5 shields!
